Akhand Jyoti Eye Hospital

About Us

AKHAND JYOTI EYE HOSPITAL is run and owned by Yugrishi Shriram Sharma Acharya Charitable Trust. Doing over 1,45,000 surgeries annually, of which 80% are free to the poor, it is the largest eye hospital in Eastern India. Driven by the compassionate and experienced team of doctors and clinical staff, Akhand Jyoti Eye Hospital has been working for the last 20+ years, towards eliminating curable blindness from Bihar and provide comprehensive, accessible, high-quality eye care services to the people in low-income geographies.

Our Story

Yugrishi Shriram Sharma Acharya Charitable Trust was formed initially to work for the welfare of the poor and downtrodden in Bihar as the state has always been laggard on all aspects of human well-being. The underlying purpose of the trust has been to improve the quality of life of people so that our activities will finally help people – the community, to overcome social, economic and psychological barriers and usher positive change.

With this theory of change in mind the trust started the Akhand Jyoti Eye hospital in December 2006 at village Mastichak, 60 kms away from the capital city of Patna in Bihar. Thereafter the trust resolved to only work in the low-income geographies of India.

Akhand Jyoti Eye Hospital focused in restoring the vision of blind patients due to cataracts with surgeries as cataract surgery not only restores the vision of the person but also the dignity, hope and livelihood of the person. Soon after the cataract surgery, the patient can resume working. With time, apart from providing free surgeries to poor patients, Akhand Jyoti Eye Hospital has emerged as the largest eye hospital in Eastern India providing comprehensive, quality, accessible and affordable eye care to the community. Today, it stands as the most trusted eye hospital in Bihar and Eastern Uttar Pradesh.
